Brazil renames the road to Maracana after Pele
Pele died aged 82 on Thursday following a battle with colon cancer. Football stars, Sporting legends, and clubs have all paid tribute to one of football's greatest players. Now, the road to the legendary stadium will be named after the Brazilian icon.

Now, Rio de Janeiro's mayor announces the decision to tribute the icon by changing the name of the Avenida Radial Oeste to Avenida Pele.

"The Avenida Radial Oeste that surrounds Maracanã will be renamed Avenida Pelé tomorrow! The decree will be published in tomorrow's Official Gazette!"
During his international career, Pele won three World Cups- in 1958, 1962, and 1970. He is the only player to have won the World Cup for three times.
As one of the greatest players in the world of football, the legendary player scored 757 goals in 831 games during his 20-year career, although Santos claims his tally was closer to 1,000.
