Klopp looks for excuses as he accuses Brentford of ‘stretching the rules’

The German tactician rues Brentford’s third goal as he think it should’ve been disallowed

There was no satisfying Jurgen Klopp on their 3-1 loss to Brentford since the German maestro thinks that not only Brentford knows how to “stretch the rules” but also that their third goal from

Mbuemo

should’ve been ruled out by referee Stuard Atwell.

In addition to these factors it seems that Liverpool was their own worst enemy tonight as an own goal and an abysmally bad performance lead to them losing the first half 2-0. Liverpool managed to pull one back with Chamberlain scoring but that goal was answered soon after as Mbuemo scored with 5 minutes remaining on the clock.

Klopp was particularly cross with

Brentford

’s third goal, explaining his frustration in a post-match interview: "

In the moment where you try to settle in a game, we concede a third goal which should have been disallowed,"

Klopp said.

"It's a full throttle sprint from two players and when you get a push in this moment, you lose balance and go down. It's a little situation in a little way but Stuart Atwell saw it differently and VAR who checked it, they hide in these moments behind the phrase 'it's not clear and obvious'.

"So the second goal decided the game, third goal shouldn't have been allowed and we should have played better."

Brentford’s overall style of play didn’t escape Klopp’s wrath either as he said:

"When I say they stretch the rules on offensive set pieces, don't get me wrong, it's smart. But they do.

"If you single out all the situations, you would see five fouls. But because it's so chaotic, nobody sees it in the end. It's good. It's really, really good."
