Mac Allister recalls the first Argentina meeting with Lionel Messi
Despite signing a new deal with Brighton in October, the Argentine has attracted a lot of attention after his key contribution to his nation's World Cup-winning squad. The World Cup winner describes his first meeting with his national hero.
Although France came back from behind twice in a game that was mostly dominated by Argentina,
Lionel Messiled his side to victory in Qatar as they won the penalty shoot-out 4-2.
Alexis Mac Allister, who had an outstanding World Cup, recalled his first meeting with Lionel Messi in an interview with
B/R Football.
"I was so nervous, my hands were shaking"
Mac Allister said.
"I'm a really shy guy, so yeah, I was really nervous. But then you realise how humble he is. In that moment, I was playing at Boca Juniors, so we had arrived from Argentina to [play] I think it was Spain for a friendly. And we arrived, and he was having dinner.
"I went to the table and said hello with my hands shaking. I was sweating. But it was an amazing moment. He's my idol. He's the best football player in the world."
