Ranieri returns to management as he takes the helm at Cagliari

Former Chelsea and Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri makes a return to the management world as he was revealed to be the new Cagliari boss.

Almost a year after being sacked at

Watford

, Claudio Ranieri returns to management to take the helm at his old club Cagliari for a second time. Having coached the club between 1988 and 1991, Ranieri made a name for himself after he led Cagliari through consecutive promotions from the third tier of Italian football all the way to the Serie A.

Ranieri last managed Watford for nearly three months but got sacked in January of 2022. He now must come back to Cagliari to rescue them from the bottom half of the Serie B table.

He follows Fabio Liverani who got sacked after

Cagliari

’s 2-1 defeat at the hand of Palermo last week. It is being reported that Ranieri’s contract runs until June 2025.

The club released an statement announcing the 71-year-old’s arrival, which read:

"Cagliari is pleased to announce it has reached an agreement with Claudio Ranieri who will take over the technical leadership of the first team.

"Now the return to the Rossoblu, where it all began, to write a new chapter in history. Welcome back Mister, it's nice to hug you again!"

Ranieri’s illustrious career saw him win an unprecedented Premier League title with Leicester City as well as coaching teams like Chelsea and Fiorentina at the highest level.
