Laporta: I would like Messi to return to Barcelona

Barcelona president Joan Laporta once again has said that they want Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou as a player.

after 21 years in 2021 when they did not renew his contract due to their financial situation.

The 35-year-old forward who won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies with Barcelona will be a free agent at the end of the season when his contract with

Paris Saint Germain

 expires.

Messi has been linked with MLS side Inter Miami and reports in France suggest that he has agreed to extend his contract with PSG for another year but Barcelona's president once again has said that they'd like him to return to Camp Nou.

"It is obvious that I would like him to return one day,"

Laporta told BarcaTV.

"I would love to, but we cannot generate expectations.

"He is a PSG player, who has a contract with them.

"What I don't want is to create expectations that have great difficulty. The [financial] levers were made to save the club because it was in a very difficult situation.

"We would like very much that he came back, but it is something that [we will have to see]."

Messi won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina and received the best player of the tournament award for the second time in his career. Laporta believes Messi is the greatest player in football history.

"For us, he is the best of all time.

We have had him here and he has become a player here. He will always be linked to Barca."
