Lionel Messi's World Cup post breaks Instagram record for most likes

Lionel Messi's World Cup celebration post has become the most-liked Instagram post in history.

Argentina superstar has now surpassed the world_record_egg Instagram account for the most-liked post on the platform, with 56 million likes. The world_record_egg Instagram account posted just a single picture of an uncracked egg which has 55.9 million likes in January 2019.

Messi

posted 10 photos of the celebrations with the following message:

"CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD! So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it, that I still haven’t come down, I can’t believe it.

"Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We proved once again that Argentinians when we fight together and united, we are able to achieve what we aim for. The merit is of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream, that was also the dream of all Argentinians… We did it!!!

LET’S F****** GO ARGENTINA! We’re seeing you very soon."

Messi’s post also broke Cristiano Ronaldo's record for the most-liked post on Instagram by an athlete. The Portuguese superstar posted an image alongside Messi playing chess in an advertisement for Louis Vuitton in November. That post reached 42 million likes.
