Howe on Enzo Fernandez rumors: "transfer fee might be quite lumpy"

The 21-year-old midfielder not only helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup but also was awarded the 2022 Young Player of the Tournament as Premier League clubs Liverpool and Newcastle are heavily linked with a move for the Benfica midfielder.

After his spectacular performance in the World Cup,

Enzo Fernandez

attracted the attention of many clubs as the 21-year-old midfielder won the Qatar 2022 Young Player award of the Tournament, being key in Argentina's World Cup-winning squad.

Newcastle United

is reportedly interested in signing the former River Plate midfielder. While Eddie Howe confirms their interest, he acknowledges the transfer’s potential magnitude. He told his pre-match conference:

"I’m aware of him (Fernandez), and I know him. But I think the transfer fee might be quite lumpy."

Responding to

Alan Shearer

's comment that Fernandez would look good in black and white, Howe said:

"I didn’t hear that, I apologize to Alan, I think I was on the other channel! That’s a mistake on my part."

The Magpies will face Bournemouth tomorrow in EFL Cup before returning to Premier League action with a game against Leicester City next week.
