Klopp confirms that van Dijk won’t be featured against Manchester City

Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash with Man City will go ahead without Virgil van Dijk but Klopp didn’t rule out Alexander Arnold or Henderson entirely for the game.

Only four days after the World Cup final, Liverpool are set to take on Manchester City in a Carabao Cup clash. Speaking after their Friday’s 4-1 win against AC Milan, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed that

Virgil van Dijk

won’t be a part of that match against City.

Klopp went on to confirm that Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have also been training with Liverpool. When asked whether they would feature against City, Klopp responded: "

Yeah, there's a chance, of course – they train already.

"Hendo is already training here. Virg is training here but I don't think we will try that. Hendo we will see, Trent we will see. But this group worked now together for nearly two weeks and we made a real step and that's cool. I don't know in this moment.”

He added.

"I hope we all get through it and we all know in England, and in Europe in general, there's kind of a virus going around, so we hope we can stay out of that. Then we will make the decision obviously on Wednesday who can play on Thursday. But it's good and will be a very interesting game after that period but I'm looking forward to it."

All three players were part of teams (England and Netherlands) that went out in the quarter-finals of the World Cup and have only recently joined Liverpool. After taking on City,

the Reds

will resume their league campaign on Boxing Day with a visit to Aston Villa.
