Nainggolan accuses Monchi of ruining Roma squad

Former As Roma star Radja Nainggolan says sporting director, Monchi is responsible for the club's struggles.

Monchi was appointed as

Roma

's sporting director in 2017. Roma finished in third place in his first season but they sold players like Alisson, Mohamed Sarah, and Nainggolan, and the team finished in ninth place the next season. Monchi left Roma and returned to Sevilla in 2019.

Roma has not finished in the top four in the last 4 seasons and

Nainggolan

has blamed Monchi for the club's troubles.

"He ruined the team,"

he told Tradizione Romanista.

"He sold all the players. I can't even name him. If I'd known he was leaving soon after I went, I would have stayed.

"We had very strong players, and then we sold them. If you want to win, you have to keep strong players. If you always change, you will never have a solid base to work off."

Nainggolan played for Roma for 4 years and joined Inter in 2018. He spent two seasons at Cagliari on loan and joined the Belgian side Antwerp in 2021.

The 34-year-old Nainggolan has ruled out a return to Roma in the future.

"If I went back to Roma now, I would run the risk of ruining all of the wonderful memories I have there,"

he added.

"Roma was the place, in terms of football, where I felt loved and respected. I'm too old to go back now. I live for football in my own way."
