Laporta: Spain's success is the result of Xavi's good work

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, says their young players have played a key role in Spain's impressive performance at the World Cup.

Spain

beat Costa Rica with seven goals in their first match at the

2022 World Cup

and was held 1-1 against Germany on Sunday in one of the best matches of the tournament.

Barcelona youngsters, Gavi and Pedri have been standout players for Spain, while Ferran Torres scored twice against Costa Rica.

Joan Laporta said

Barcelona

is proud of their players' performance for Spain and insisted that their manager, Xavi Hernandez, has played a big role in developing them.

"I think it's fantastic. It gives pride for Barcelona to see how the national team is playing and how our players are doing,"

he told AS.

"[Spain head coach] Luis Enrique has been able to take on all the pressure, which is a way to relieve all the pressure on the players.

"He has been very brave betting on very young players who are falling in love with the world and it just so happens that most are from Barca.

"The good role of Luis Enrique's national team is also thanks to the good work that Xavi is doing in Barcelona, where there are the most players.”

Spain is on the brink of qualifying for the knockout stage and faces Japan in their final group match.

Laporta also said that Brazil and France alongside Spain are the favourites to win the World Cup.

”For me, Spain, along with Brazil and France, are the big favourites of the tournament."
