Davies named in Canada’s World Cup squad despite the injury scare

Canada’s second ever World Cup appearance may be boosted by the fact that their star player, Alphonso Davies, seems to be fit to play in the competition

Canada’s 26-man squad for the World Cup was just announced and the Bayern Munich left back

Alphonso Davies

was included as well despite the recent injury he picked up against Hertha Berlin.

Alongside Jonathan David, Alphonso Davies was perhaps Canada’s most influential player in their qualification to the World Cup, and so the hamstring injury he picked up recently was a distressing news for Canadians.

Although

Bayern

’s medical staff cleared him for the World Cup, the question mark about his involvement still remained until John Herdman announced his squad for the tournament.

This will be Canada’s second World Cup appearance following the 1986 World Cup at Mexico, where they were grouped with Soviet Union, France and Hungary, and ended up losing all three matches. Les Rouges will be hoping to do a lot better this time around with players like Davies, Larin and David.

While there is no doubt that the inclusion of Davies will boost their chances, players like Jonathan David and Cyle Larin will be the ones leading the line for Canada with them being 1st and 2nd best goalscorers in Canada’s history respectively.

As it stands, Canada is only one of the four teams (Trinidad and Tobago, Zaire and China) to never have scored in the World Cup. their massive attacking talents will be looking to change that as they face Croatia, Morocco and Belgium in Group F.
