Santos denies Moutinho's last World Cup wish with Sanches also absent

Appearing 146 times for his country, the 36-year-old midfielder was overlooked in favor of Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes. However, the Portugal captain will now try to become one of just four players to hit the net at four separate editions of the tournament

Joao Moutinho

were among the most noticeable players missing their country's World Cup tournament.

While Sanches was overlooked by PSG team-mates Vitinha, Pereira, and Nuno Mendes, the 36-year-old midfielder Moutinho was denied the chance of featuring in the last World Cup as Santos opted to include his Wolverhampton teammates, Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes.

Meanwhile, Portugal captain

Cristiano Ronaldo

hopes to become the first player to score at five separates World Cups this winter as he already shares the tournament of scoring in four separate competitions with Pele, Uwe Seeler, and Miroslav Klose.
