Inzaghi confirms Lukaku’s injury but says he will be fit for the World Cup

Head coach Inzaghi confirmed that Romelu Lukaku would not feature against Bayern but downplayed the injury’s severity and its impact on Belgium’s World Cup

Inter Milan

booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages last week after they beat Viktoria Plzen 4-0 and qualified over Xavi’s Barcelona. Now Inzaghi confirmed that Romelu Lukaku won’t have any part to play in their last match of the group stage against

Bayern Munich

.

Lukaku,

who is on loan from Chelsea

, came on from the bench last week and scored against Viktoria Plzen but now is out with a hamstring injury.

"He had a little problem with his scar [in his hamstring] in Saturday's match when he came on,"

Inzaghi said.

"There was a statement from the club, he will have to rest for a few days and then he will be re-evaluated at the weekend.

"It is a slowdown that was not needed, he was giving a lot in this period, we hope to be able to use him again before the [World Cup] break."

Apart from Lukaku, Inter has also been playing without their midfield talisman, Marcelo Brozovic for some time now. Inzaghi provided an update on his situation as well:

"Brozovic we hope can return on Sunday, then [Danilo] D'Ambrosio is out and we won't have him until after the break.

"We know what game we have on Sunday, I will change something but not too much. Today we did something on the pitch, but not too much. In my opinion the team is giving excellent responses."

Inter who seem to be back on track after having a rough month in September, were praised by Inzaghi who called their record in October “almost perfect”.

"Compared to September we are in better shape, the conditions of the players have improved,"

he continued.

"Tomorrow it will not count for the group, but it will be a match in a beautiful stadium, against one of the best in Europe.

"We want to have a serious, organised match, knowing that there will be difficulties, we find a very strong team, with a deep squad."
