Mancini optimistic about Italy's Euro 2024 qualifying group

Italy is in a difficult group to qualify for Euro 2024.

Italy head coach Roberto Mancini is optimistic about his team's chances to advance from the qualifying stage of Euro 2024.

Italy will face England, Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta in the preliminary stage and it is a difficult road for them to climb. After the disaster of failing to advance to the World Cup with a defeat against North Macedonia, the Azzurri will once again face this team and fight for revenge. England will also be looking for revenge after last year's defeat against the Azzurri in the Euro 2020 final. However, Mancini is optimistic about advancing from the qualifying stage.

He said:

“I was sure that we would have drawn one of England or France, the group seems reasonable, the challenges are not all easy but they are all to be played.

“With Southgate we know each other well but if it continues like this it’s good enough for us, I don’t know if he will agree.”

Asked about their defeat against North Macedonia, he replied:

“It was one of those games that happen every now and then, as shown in Palermo you have to play all the games.”
