Suarez defends Messi over his leaked Barcelona contract

Luis Suarez has defended Lionel Messi after Spanish news outlet El Mundo leaked the Argentine's contract demands from Barcelona.

El Mundo recently claimed that

Lionel Messi

who joined

Paris Saint-Germain

in 2021 during the negotiation over extending his contract in 2020 had asked

Barcelona

to allow his family and Luis Suarez's family to share a box at the Camp Nou.

Suarez in an interview with Marca has defended Messi and said it is a common demand that footballers make from their clubs.

Suarez said:

"It amuses me. It is something very normal in any player. If you check the contracts of any elite footballer, they should all have their box. I, for example, at Atletico Madrid, had mine; in Nacional, too... That's why all this speculation amuses me.

Actually, Leo's thing was to try to make life easier for the club because, being shared by our two families, it was just a box. It was more difficult for Barca if Suarez had one and Messi had another [laughs].”

Suarez left Barcelona in 2020 after Ronald Koeman decided to sell him. Former Liverpool star says he hopes one day Koeman tells the truth about his departure.

Suarez said:

“Time goes by, and yes, out of politeness and respect, I would greet him. If I met him, I hope that Ronald would have the greatness, which he had as a player at the club, to tell me the truth to my face about why I left, and that I didn't leave for footballing or technical reasons.

Suarez who recently returned to his former club National in Uruguay does not rule out linking up again with Messi in MLS. Both Messi and Suarez who previously have been linked with MLS clubs will be free agents at end of the season.

He said:

"[MLS] is one of the options that I see very close, but now I do not think about it. I think and enjoy Nacional."
