Ranieri reveals why Inter can't cope with Ivan Perisic’s departure

Perisic left Inter last month to join Tottenham after his contract expired. Amid a terrible start to the new season, Claudio Ranieri explains why Ivan Perisic’s departure was so disastrous for Inter.

The

Inter

boss Simone Inzaghi is under a lot of pressure after starting the Serie A season with three defeats in their seven games. Losing to Lazio, Milan, and Udinese, Inter is currently seventh in the Serie A table.

Inter headed the international break after a 3-1 defeat to

Udinese

last weekend with many questioning Simone Inzaghi’s decision to substitute Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan after just 30 minutes in the first half with both players had been booked earlier. In addition,

Romelu Lukaku

returned to Inter on loan from Chelsea this summer before getting sidelined due to an injury missing the start of the season. However, the Belgian returned to training yesterday.

.The former Nerazzurri boss

Claudio Ranieri

told

FcInterNews

:

“Inter seems lost since last season’s defeat in the derby. They re-signed Lukaku but lost him again straight away

.

“Inzaghi needs time, even if some substitutions look hurried. Sometimes it’s better to talk to a player to know if he feels like he wants to continue despite a yellow card.”

On

Ivan Perisic

’s free transfer to Tottenham and why Inter couldn’t replace him, Ranieri added:

“Inter lost a crucial player. He was a thorn in the side for Inter’s opponents. He would attack, defend and create a numerical advantage on the flank.”

Ranieri's other former club,

Juventus

, also had a poor start to the season. However,

Ranieri

believes both Inter and Juventus can win the Scudetto this season.

“Why not? It’s the strangest season ever. After the World Cup, they’ll start from scratch and we’ll see. It will mostly depend on Milan and Napoli, without forgetting Atalanta and Udinese.”
