Torres has great abilities to become a manager - Rafa Marquez
After studying together, Rafa Marquez advises Fernando Torres to pursue a career as a manager.
Some of the golden generations of players from the
2010 World Cup
champion Spanish national team are transitioning into coaching roles as they near retirement.
Players like Victor Valdes and
Xabi Alonsohave crossed over to the substitutes' bench. To this point in his career, the former has primarily coached young teams, while the latter most recently led Real Sociedad 'B' to promotion to the Segunda.
However, two more are starting to wave in the junior systems of
Spain's most prominent clubs.
Rafa Marquez, manager of Barcelona Atlético, was recently interviewed by
Mundo Deportivo
, when he was asked if anyone on his coaching course had particularly stood out.
“Fernando Torres has great abilities. Equally, Alvaro Arbeloa. You could already see they stood out during the course.”
Both Torres and the winning Atletico Madrid U19 team played for Liverpool under Rafa Benitez and are now in charge of the league. Prior to this season, he served as the assistant manager.
Arbeloa coaches Real Madrid's U-19 team, a rival club in the same city. He replaces Raul Gonzalez as manager of Real Madrid Castilla after serving in a similar role with the under-17 team.
