Giroud and Calabria celebrate Milan’s ‘important’ win in the CL

Milan won the battle against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and Olivier Giroud and Davide Calabria celebrated their side’s ‘important win’.

Milan

were able to thrash

Dinamo Zagreb

3-1 in their second match of the Champions League in the group stage. This also marked their first win at home in the competition since nine years ago, with

Olivier Giroud

and

Davide Calabria

were delighted with the result.

“It means a lot, we hadn’t won a Champions League at home for a long time and it was important to get all three points for the group and for our self-esteem,”

Calabria told Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle.

Aside from winning their first home game in the competition after so long, it was a crucial ‘first time’ for Oliver Giroud as well since he scored a European goal for the first time for Milan. Stefano Pioli’s only option for the centre forward was the former Chelsea star since they are dealing with a lot of injury setbacks, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Divock Origi, and Ante Rebic. According to the Frenchman, winning did not come easy for the Serie A champions.

“Simple? Yes and no. We were not serene after their goal, but we wanted to win this game with our style,”

he told Sky Sport.

“We could have scored more goals if we were more accurate with the final pass. We are very happy, it was not an easy game, but we did well.”

The Rossoneri have gained four points from two of their group stage matches and will get ready to lock horns with

Chelsea

in their next two encounters.

The first game will take place on October 5 at Stamford Bridge. Pioli’s side will take on Napoli on Sunday and it is going to be their last match before the international break.
