Free agent Diego Costa joins Wolverhampton

The former Atletico Madrid star has finally decided to return to the Premier League.

Former

Chelsea

striker

Diego Costa

has joined

Wolverhampton Wanderers

as a free agent on a contract until the end of the season.

Wolves had been trying to sign the Brazil-born star during the transfer window, but a delay in issuing a work permit from the UK government meant that the move was delayed until today.

Costa left Atletico Mineiro in January, a team he had joined in the 2021 season for whom he made 19 appearances and scored five goals, but terminated his contract after five months.

Sasa Kalajedzic was another striker who joined Wolverhampton in the summer, but his ACL injury against Southampton has prompted Wolves to consider a new signing in the forward line. Reports suggested that Costa might return to La Liga and join Rayo Vallecano, but he ended up returning to the Premier League. He has not featured in a professional game since December and it remains to be seen whether he will be in the squad for his side's game against Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
