Man City signs Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji

The Swiss defender will be in the Premier League from next season.

Manchester City

have signed

Manuel Akanji

on a five-year deal.

City were able to get the consent of

Dortmund

for 15 million pounds on Wednesday and sign the defender of this team on the last day of transfers. The Swiss defender was in the final year of his contract with Dortmund and had not yet played in the new season. After moving to Dortmund in 2018 from Basel, he played 158 games for the team.

City have struggled with injuries in the new season, with Aymeric Laporte sidelined until September and Nathan Ayke picking up an injury during the 3-3 draw against Newcastle.

After joining Dortmund, Akanji was able to quickly find his place in the starting line-up. He played 36 games last season as well, but was left out of the team with the transfer of Niklas Sule from Bayern Munich.
