Edouard Mendy’s error awards Leeds United a 3-0 triumph over Chelsea

An error from Chelsea's Senegalese goalkeeper came fatal as it gave Leeds United a stunning 3-0 victory over the Blues at Elland Road. Mendy's decision to dally with a backpass came fatal as Aaronson dispossessed him and scored the opener despite Chelsea’s early dominance.

A howler from

Edouard Mendy

gave

Leeds United

the opening goal in the 33rd minute as the keeper took too long on the ball, giving

Brendan Aaronson

enough time to nick the ball off the goalkeeper's foot and score the opening goal for Leeds.

Rodrigo

scored his fourth goal of the season while Jack Harrison added another to seal

Jesse Marsch

a 3-0 triumph, which was their first victory over their London rivals for almost two decades.

Amid a high-energy start from

Chelsea

that saw

Raheem Sterling

almost score the opener before the assistant referee flagged his goal offside, Mendy's decision to dally with a backpass came fatal as Aaronson darted in to rob the Senegal international and roll the ball into the net.

The Peacocks’ Spanish forward Rodrigo doubled Leeds United’s lead five minutes later as he headed in

Jack Harrison

's cross from a free-kick after Sterling had committed a foul just outside the box.

Chelsea was on the verge of a comeback as Gallagher,

Loftus-Cheek

, and Cucurella missed goal chances before Jack Harrison seal the visitors a 3-0 victory, assisted by Leeds’ Spanish forward. Leeds pair Rodrigo and Harrison have combined for four

Premier League

goals so far this season.

The matters got worse for Chelsea when

Kalidou Koulibaly

was shown a second yellow card for dragging down

Joe Gelhardt

in the 84th minute in an evening to forget for the Blues.

Chelsea will next host

Leicester City

in the Premier League on Saturday while Leeds United will host

Barnsley

on Wednesday for an EFL Cup clash
