Three nominees for 2022 UEFA Women’s Player of the Year

The three nominees for Player of the Year award for the 2022 UEFA Women have been revealed.

Beth Mead

,

Lena Oberdorf

and

Alexia Putellas

are the final three nominees for the Player of the Year award for the 2022 UEFA Women.

The three players were on the first shortlist of 22 players, with three names coming before next week’s ceremony in Istanbul.

Mead pulled off impressive performance at the Women’s Euros, where she received the Player of the Tournament award after her name was on the top of the scoring charts.

Oberdorf received the Young Player of the Tournament award when she helped Germany get to another final, and she played a key role in Wolfsburg winning the double last season.

Spain star Putellas was not in the tournament due to injury, but the 2021 Ballon d’Or Feminin winner had one of the best seasons of her career as she met the back of the net 34 times in Barcelona’s trophy season in the 2021-22.

Wolfsburg and Germany striker Alex Popp were also close to the top three, while Aitana Bonmati from Barcelona was fifth in the voting process.

UEFA also pronounced the Women’s Coach of the Year nominees on Wednesday, with Sarina Wiegman joining Sonia Bompastor and Martina Voss-Tecklenburg from England, Lyon and Germany respectively.
