Spalletti: I'm happy Raspadori stayed in Italy; We gave Mertens a deal

Luciano Spalletti discussed the skepticism around Napoli and Dries Mertens' departure.

The Partenopei have had an interesting summer transfer window. Players like

Kalidou Koulibaly

, Lorenzo Insigne, and Mertens have left the team.

Napoli

got young players like

Kim Min-Jae

,

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

, Leo Ostigard, and Mathias Olivera to replace them. The club might also get another striker before the end of the month.

Luciano Spalletti

first talked to Corriere della Sera about his relationship with Napoli and how he feels about living in the capital of Campania. "I don't want to sound weird, but what brings me and Naples together is nature. Even the smells and tastes. Here, these are also hard-to-explain feelings. Emotions and feelings, this is how the city is making me fall in love with it. It takes me back to where I came from."

"I'd like it to understand us better because our love for football is real and unique. But there are moments, and it's not true that if you have a good season, even if you break the mood of depression that I found when I got there, and you don't win the Scudetto, you haven't done anything, and some might even say you've failed."

"I was the first one to make sure everyone wanted to win. I raised the bar in my locker room to boost the players' self-esteem. We were able to do great things even though almost half of the team had contracts that were about to end. He thought about Mertens leaving the club last month. "Let's get something straight: The club nor I didn't want him to join us. Mertens could have really helped us out. But when the club made him an offer, he turned it down. I stay out of this, and that's the right thing to do."

The Italian coach talked about his relationship with Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is the president of Italy. "We talk to each other straight on. So it must be true. To get along, we sometimes have to change who we are. Sometimes I plan, and sometimes he does. We are both very strong."

The Napoli coach talked about the upcoming season and who will be the top teams. "I'm sorry, but I feel doubt around us. We are trying hard to be ready because of this. We can meet our needs with the help of a market that, within certain limits, works for us. I've heard here and there that Dybala has not yet arrived.

"My team tried, but when there are fences in the way, you have to stop. We shouldn't feel bad because of this. All of the top teams, including Milan and Juventus, as well as Roma and Fiorentina, have gotten much better. We go on our way, knowing this will be a strange season for everyone because it is different. Games happen on the field, not in the stands. "Let's see; the market is still long for now."

Last, Spalletti talked about how important young players are in Serie A. "They need to be able to grow up, so find clubs that can help them do that." Then, money is another thing that can change. I do, of course, respect the choices they make. Going abroad always adds to your life.

"But when I think of

Giacomo Raspadori

, I'm glad he stayed in Italy instead of leaving. We grow up here at home... And this is not an invitation; it's just something to think about before the market."
