Arsenal confirmed Odegaard as Gunners new captain

The Norwegian star became the captain of his team after a year and a half in London.

Arsenal

have confirmed that

Martin Odegaard

will wear the armband as the team's captain next season.

Last season, after the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette inherited the armband, but with the departure of the French striker, the gunners did not have a captain for the next season. Odegaard was expected to be chosen as the club's new captain and Mikel Arteta had also raised the issue.

Earlier this month he said:

"The captaincy is going to be decided pretty soon. Martin has a lot of qualities that we want as a captain."

Now the club has announced that the Norwegian star will be the captain of the team from next season and will wear the armband in the final pre-season game of Arsenal against Sevilla in the Emirates Cup.

Odegaard joined Arsenal on loan from

Real Madrid

in January 2021 and made his transfer permanent in August last year. He played 50 games for his team and recorded 8 goals and 6 assists.
