Onana says Eto'o's help sealed Inter's move

Andre Onana is having a good time with Simone Inzaghi's team, which Samuel Eto'o quickly suggested to him.

Andre Onana

said that

Samuel Eto'o

's message of support convinced him to join

Inter

. Eto'o told the goalkeeper, "You are a winner," in the message.

Onana finally made his long-awaited move from Ajax to Inter on a free transfer at the beginning of July. He had been with the Eredivisie champions for six years.

The Cameroon international is said to have signed a deal back in January. The 26-year-old is expected to be

Samir Handanovic

's long-term replacement. The team of Simone Inzaghi did not say how long Onana's contract is, but it is said to last until the end of the 2026-27 season.

After moving from Amsterdam to Milan, Onana said that Eto'o, who was on the Inter team that won a stunning treble in 2009-10, was a reason he went to the Nerazzurri.

"It is a wonderful club.

Piero Ausilio

, the sports director, gave me his word as soon as I talked to him, and he kept it, "Onana told DAZN. "I was very happy and moved by what we talked about.

"I already knew Inter because of Eto'o. I talked to him before the transfer, and he told me, "You are a winner, and Inter is the right club for you." Onana is used to playing for one of the best teams in Europe. He went through the famous La Masia academy at Barcelona before joining the youth team at Ajax in 2015.

"I've learned a lot in these first few days. I'm glad to be at this club where I can be close to the players. Things are going very well. I've been to Barcelona, to Amsterdam, "he added. "Since I've been here, I've seen a lot of different things. I've also seen some things that remind me of Spain.

"Training to be a goalkeeper is a lot of fun here. Here, you look at football and think about it in a different way. I think this will help me a lot." Onana will try to help Inter win the Serie A title back from their fierce rivals Milan. Inzaghi's team will begin their league season on August 13 at newly promoted Lecce.
