Spezia interested in signing Milan's out-of-favor Caldara this summer

The Italian defender which once joined Milan as one of the hottest prospects in Italy failed to live up to expectations due to a series of injuries. With his contract running out next summer, Spezia appears as a potential destination for the 28-year-old defender.

According to

Tuttosport

, Spezia has stepped up their interest in Caldara as they are keen to sign him this summer. The negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing as a deal could be reached fairly soon. It’s been reported that Milan is interested in including young talents Kelvin Amian and Jakub Kiwior in the possible deal for

Mattia Caldara

.

Noting that Caldara's contract is due to expire next summer, even a loan departure would essentially spell the end of his time with the Rossoneri.

The centre-back’s outstanding performances with La Dea earnt him a €19m move from Atalanta to Juventus in 2017. However, the Italian defender never made a first-team appearance for the Bianconeri as he spent his only Juventus season on loan back at Atalanta before finally sealing a €36.8m move to

Milan

in 2018. After another loan spell at Atalanta from Milan, Caldara headed out once again on loan to Venezia.

The 28-year-old Italian spent last season on loan with Venezia and despite pulling fine performances, his work wasn’t enough to help them avoid relegation. Caldara also made his senior international debut for Italy under Roberto Mancini in a 3–1 friendly loss to France in 2018
