Simons on why he left PSG to join PSV Eindhoven

The teenager had rejected a lengthy extension with Paris Saint-Germain and has now talked about the reasons why he is eager to take up a new challenge.

Xavi Simons

, the ex-

PSG

wonderkid, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to turn down a lengthy extension with the Ligue 1 side. He continued to thank his former teammates, Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe for helping him develop.

He has penned a five-year contract with

PSV Eindhoven

and changed his decision to extend his stay at PSG.

After having a breakout season under the reign of Mauricio Pochettino, the 19-year-old explained why he left notwithstanding the expectations of him staying.

“I was training with world stars every day but playing games is also important,"

the midfielder told ESPN on the subject of his move.

"I learned a lot from these players but I just turned 19 so I think I had to take that step to develop myself. It was really incredible. I don't think you will see such a good team together again.

"It was wonderful to be in the locker room with people you saw on TV. Not everyone can say that. I'm very grateful to them."

Simons goes back to his country for taking new pasture in his career, and he revealed that Ruud van Nistelrooy persuaded him by telling him how important he will be for PSV.

"We have a very good connection, it's very important to me. He explained very well how he wants to work with the team and with me,"

said Simons.

"For my part, I prefer to play as an attacking or central midfielder. Let me run, score and assist."
