Juventus to receive €20m as Atalanta make permanent move for Demiral

Atalanta has decided to buy Turkey international center-back Merih Demiral from Juventus.

According to the Italian press,

Atalanta

will activate their option to buy

Demiral

permanently for €20m.

Demiral spent last season out on loan with Atalanta. First, it was reported that they can’t afford to buy him permanently after the failure to qualify for Europe but now it appears Atalanta has decided to activate their option to buy after another meeting between the clubs.

Italian media recently claimed that Atalanta could activate the clause to buy Demiral permanently, but then immediately sell him to Inter if Milan Skriniar leaves to join Paris Saint-Germain.

He was also linked with Newcastle last week and Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur have been interested in him.

Demiral played in 42 games for Atalanta across all competitions last season and scored two goals. He also has played 35 times for Turkey.

The 24-year-old defender joined

Juventus

from Sassuolo in 2019 but failed to become a regular starter and just played in 32 games for the next two seasons. His contract with Juve expires in 2024.

Juventus didn't have a space for him in their squad and was open to selling him.
