Militao showed why he is worth his price tag at Real Madrid
The Los Blancos defender has made his way to the starting XI and reveals that he has eventually shown how much he is worth for the team.
Eder Militao
thinks that his performance in the 2021-22 season showed the reason why he is the most expensive defender in the history of
Real Madrid.
The Brazilian joined the club from Porto in 2019 on a deal worth €50million only one year following his arrival the Portuguese side from Sao Paulo.
He had a hard time having an influence in the beginning two seasons at Real Madrid, starting only 23 matches in La Liga.
However, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane’s departure before the start of the previous season gave the 24-year-old a chance to seal a place in the backline of Real Madrid.
He appeared in 50 matches with his side winning the La Liga title as well as the Champions League trophy.
Militao showed that he is better than other defenders. He did not feel pressured to fill the places of Varane and Ramos.
"When they both left, people pointed out that they had made history at the club,"
he told Marca.
"I thought that my time to do things had come, to show the fans and everyone that they could count on me. I have shown what I can do and I have shown why I am at Real Madrid."
Quizzed whether he had lived up to the expectations, Militao said:
"Yes. When I arrived things didn't go well because I had two central defenders like that ahead of me. They had been together for a long time, but I have shown why I was signed.
"I didn't stop doing the things I did before and I remained confident. I knew I wasn't doing well, but work and family helped me on a daily basis."
Militao also talked highly of Ancelotti as well.
"He is a great coach,"
the defender added.
"He helps us a lot and respects the decisions of the players.
"On a day-to-day basis he talks a lot in training. He is a very funny person, he connects with us."
