Steven Bergwijn: "I want to leave Tottenham now, that's for sure"

After getting offended towards the end of the season, Steven Bergwijn has announced that he wishes to quit Tottenham as quickly as possible.

Bergwijn appeared in 32 games in all competitions last season, although only four of those were

Premier League

starts, and he only featured more than 40 minutes once.

In his past 17 league appearances, 12 of them lasted less than 15 minutes.

Ajax

has already begun negotiations to sign the Dutchman, and reports suggest that

Spurs

are prepared to let Bergwijn go after he battled for playing time under Antonio Conte.

"I just need to go play," he told

AD

. "I want to leave Spurs now, that's for sure.

"Is it important that my new club plays in the Champions League? That's not my top priority. It would be nice, but what's important is that I'm going to play.

"I wasn't allowed to leave Spurs in the winter and then I didn't have any problems. But for the last few months, I was hardly looked after there. I want to go and play somewhere weekly."

Bergwijn, who scored twice as the Netherlands cruised through Belgium in the Nations League on Friday, went on to say that 'there are more teams' willing to sign him this summer than only Ajax.

"It would be nice if there was clarity soon," he continued. "My situation now has to be different."
