Roberto Martinez gives bad news about Romelu Lukaku's injury

Roberto Martinez said that Romelu Lukaku's injury "doesn't look good."

Roberto Martinez

, the manager of

Belgium

, said that

Romelu Lukaku

's injury "doesn't look good" after the striker had to leave his team's heavy Nations League loss to the

Netherlands

.

In the 23rd minute of Friday's game in Brussels, when Lukaku and Man City's

Nathan Ake

were fighting for the ball, Ake's foot got caught under Lukaku's right foot. This caused Lukaku's right ankle to bend in an awkward way. The

Chelsea

forward tried to keep playing, but he had to leave the game before halftime.

Martinez said that Lukaku had hurt his ankle and probably wouldn't be able to play in Belgium's last three Nations League games this international break. It's not the best way for the forward to end what has been a hard campaign.

Since he moved back to Chelsea from Inter for £97.5 million last summer, the 29-year-old hasn't been as good as he said he would be. His season was ruined by an injury, a case of Covid-19, and an interview with Italian media that has become famous. Martinez told HLN what was going on with his main striker after the 4-1 loss to the Dutch: "It doesn't look good. His ankle got hurt.

"We have to wait 48 hours for the MRI results, but I don't think he will be able to play in the next games. That's how I feel." Lukaku missed more than a month of the 2021/22 season because he had a similar injury to the same ankle. The Belgian will hope that this latest problem won't stop him from getting ready for next season, but it's still not clear where he will be playing football.

90min knows that Chelsea won't stop the striker from leaving if he wants to. Inter wants to bring him back to San Siro. Sources also say that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are keeping an eye on him.
