Chelsea's takeover approved by UK government

Finally, the sales situation of Chelsea was determined.

Chelsea

have announced that the acquisition of the club has been confirmed by the British government and Roman Abramovich will not benefit from this issue.

In May, Chelsea approved a £4.25 billion takeover bid from Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss. On Tuesday, the Premier League approved the deal, with only government approval to finalize it. After the British government boycotted Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea club was for sale, and now the government allowed the group to take over the club after making sure that no profit would be made to the Russian.

Nadine Dorries, the UK secretary of state said in a statement: "Last night the Government issued a licence that permits the sale of Chelsea FC.

"Given the sanctions we placed on those linked to Putin and the bloody invasion of Ukraine, the long-term future of the club can only be secured under a new owner.

"We are satisfied the proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or other sanctioned individuals.

"I want to thank everyone, especially officials who've worked tirelessly to keep the club playing and enable this sale, protecting fans and the wider football community."
