Chelsea sale ‘in danger’ as ministers press Roman Abramovich
The deal to buy Chelsea for £4.25 billion is in jeopardy again because owner Roman Abramovich and Whitehall can't agree on the terms of the deal.

has heard that government officials aren't sure if a special license that is needed to approve the sale will be given before the end of the month.
People who are close to the talks say that ministers have not yet gotten the assurances they want from
Roman Abramovich
about where the £2.5bn from the sale will go. Without a deal before certain deadlines set by the football authorities,
Chelseacould be kicked out of club competitions next season or even face the threat of going bankrupt again.
People who were close to the situation warned that it was still changing and that a license could still be given before the end of the month. This would mean that Chelsea would start the next season under new management.
This month, the oligarch and his advisers made a binding deal with a group led by Todd Boehly, a part-owner of the LA Dodgers. The group is mostly funded by
Clearlake Capital
, an investment firm in California.
The sale would end Mr. Abramovich's 19-year run as the owner of Chelsea, which lost the FA Cup Final to Liverpool on penalties on Saturday.
