Guardiola: Bielsa would have won more than me at Barcelona

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds United

sacked Bielsa in February amid a dire run of results after four years at Elland Road, but Guardiola believes Bielsa would have won more trophies than him had he been in charge of the

Barcelona

a decade ago.

The 66-year-old Bielsa helped Leeds to return to the Premier League in 2020 after a 16-year absence. Last season they finished in the ninth place in the

Premier League

but this season they slipped towards the relegation places and in the end, Bielsa's tenure ended horrifically, following a run of five defeats in six games, no wins, five goals scored, and 20 conceded.

Guardiola told Telemundo Sports:

”Give him my Barcelona and you will see how he will win titles,"

he said.

"Give me Leeds, with all due respect to the Leeds players, but I would still be in the Championship.”

Guardiola revealed that the Argentine welcomed him to his home to offer advice about entering football management.

"I will never forget how gentle, how kind he was with me when I was absolutely nobody in the world of football in terms of management and how he shared his knowledge, We talked about football, but not just football."
