Depay labels ref Pawson “a joke” for denying the Netherlands a penalty
The Netherlands international showed his frustration on social media following his side’s 1-1 friendly draw at Johan Cruyff ArenA.
Memphis Depay
called
Craig Pawson
, the referee from the Premier League who was in charge of the clash between the
Netherlandsand
Germany, “a Joke” after the VAR check denied a penalty.
Germany’s eight-match winning run under the reign of Hansi Flick was halted by the Netherlands as the match came down to a 1-1 raw on Tuesday.
If it was not for Pawson’s controversial decision, Louis van Gaal’s side might have won the game and Depay messaged Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger on social media to see what he told the official.
Thomas Muller gave Germany the lead before Steven Bergwijn pulled the game level in the 68th minute, and the Dutchman could have helped his side get in the front.
Pawson decided not to gift them a penalty after the VAR check and Depay seemed frustrated on the pitch and showed his frustration the day after the game on social media.
The 28-year-old wrote on
:
"Btw [by the way] the ref yesterday was a joke, he don’t like me Fr Fr [for real]
."
He also directed a message to Rudiger, writing:
"tf (the f*ck) you telling him here. Quick VAR."
The Netherlands’ next action comes in June in the Nations League and Depay is set to go back to Blaugrana before their battle against Sevilla in La Liga on April 3.
