Matip as Premier League Player of the Month in February
The Reds centre-back has been named the Premier League Player of the Month award in the month of February.
Joel Matip
has featured in all four games of
Liverpoolin the
Premier Leaguein February, keeping three clean sheets and conceding only once in their 3-1 win over
Norwich.
He has had a great impact on the Reds’ other end of the field, too. He helped Diogo Jota seal a 2-0 victory over Leicester, before finding the back of the net himself during their thumping victory over Leeds in their last game of the previous month.
Given his shining performance in those games, Matip was named the Premier League Player of the Month ahead of Che Adams, Ryan Fraser, Harry Kane, Ben Mee and Wilfried Zaha.
He is now the third Reds player to have won the prize this season, with Mohamed Salah grabbing it in October and Trent Alexander-Arnold in November.
Partly courtesy of Matip’s rich vein of form, Liverpool have been able to close the gap with the leaders of the league to six points, while also having one game in hand against their fierce rivals.
