Klopp on Kelleher decision before Carabao Cup final

The Reds boss announced that the home-grown shot-stopper will be in the starting XI for the battle against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Caoimhin Kelleher

has featured in the last three matches in the competition this season, as well as the semi-final’s second leg against

Arsenal

and

Jurgen Klopp

revealed that there is ‘no chance’ he won’t be selected ahead of

Alisson

, the first choice, on the weekend.

It’s just a thing we have to do because of the quality Caoimh has,”

the

Liverpool

boss explained when he faced the media ahead of Sunday’s final.

“We want to keep him as long as somehow possible, knowing that, from our point of view, the best goalkeeper in the world is our number one.

“Caoimh is an exceptional goalkeeper and we want to keep him here. For that, he needs games. These games are his competition, and there’s no chance of him not playing.”

The shot-stopper has not yet played in the Champions League in the 2021-22 season and appeared in two Premier League matches, but it was whenever Alisson was not available. He made an appearance in Liverpool’s FA Cup ties and he was also involved in Carabao Cup.

He joined the Reds when he was 16 and was on the bench in Champions League final in 2019 before making his debut later as well as his first senior game in the Carabao cup the next season.

The 23-year-old has made 16 first-team appearances for the Reds until now and he has to caps for senior Ireland.
