Cisse delighted after Senegal reached their goal

Senegal won their first title with a win on penalties against Egypt.

coach Aliou Cisse is delighted with his side winning their first Africa Cup of Nations title.

Cisse had previously suffered two defeats in the African Cup of Nations final, once as a player in 2002 and once as a coach in 2019, and has now finally won the trophy. They faced

Egypt

last night and after a goalless draw at the end of 120 minutes, they defeated the opponent on penalties and became the champions. The head coach of Lions of Teranga praised his team's performance and was happy with the championship.

He told reporters:

“I am very happy with the title, it showed that consistency and putting in the work will give you results.

“We reached our goal, and what makes me even more proud is that we beat the record-holders to it, so I’d like to thank all my players.

“We had our eyes on the title for the last 60 years, and tonight we finally achieved it.

“The Egyptian national team deserves respect, it wasn’t a coincidence that they reached the final. They have been showing incredible performances throughout the tournament.

“I know that the World Cup qualifiers games will be different, we will celebrate tonight and then we’ll start preparing for the play-offs.”
