Bayern’s Alphonso sustaining heart muscle inflammation

The full-back is not going to be part of the first-team as he is dealing with a heart muscle inflammation.

Alphonso Davies

has seen his comeback ruled out as

Bayern Munich

detected signs of heart muscle inflammation in him after he sustained Covid-19.

The Canada international did not play in the first game of 2022 after testing positive for Covid-19.

Julian Nagelsmann

’s side were defeated 2-1 against Borussia Monchengladbach when he was absent and the 21-year-old will not return any time soon after another health issue.

Before their battle against Koln, Bayern boss Nagelsmann offered an update on Davies:

“Yesterday, during our follow-up examination that we do with every player that has had Covid-19, we detected signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. an inflammation of the heart muscle.

“He has stopped training for now, so he won't be available to us for the next weeks.

“This myocarditis isn't too dramatic based on the ultrasound, but more simply signs of an inflammation. Nevertheless, it needs to heal and that will no doubt take some time.”

Now that he has to be sidelined it is unclear when he will return to action. He will not feature against Koln, while Bayern are getting ready to face Hertha Berlin on January 23.

On February 5, they will face

RB Leipzig

before going to Bochum a week later. On February 16, they will face

Red Bull Salzburg

in the Champions League Round of 16 and Davies will not play those games, sitting on the bench.

However, he will undergo more tests in Munich to determine his recovery time.
