Edouard Mendy tested positive for Covid-19

The Senegalese goalkeeper, along with eight other teammates, will miss their first match of the Africa Cup of Nations.

's first match in the Africa Cup of Nations against Zimbabwe due to a positive Covid-19 test.

Mendy, along with Kalidou Koulibaly and Famara Diedhiou, are three players whose Covid-19 test has been declared positive and will not be able to accompany their team for Monday's match. Six other Senegalese players have already suffered from Covid-19 and now the main contender for the championship will have a hard time in the first game.

The Chelsea goalkeeper is expected to have no problem accompanying his team except for Monday's game, and he can play for his team from the next game, the match against Malawi.

In 2021, at the Ballon d'Or ceremony, he was recognized as the second best goalkeeper in the world, and Senegal has counted on him to succeed in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Senegal also will not have smaila Sarr and Abdoulaye Seck due to injury.

Senegal also counted on Sadio Mane to win the competition, and in the absence of the stars, it remains to be seen how the Liverpool striker will perform.
