A medical emergency pauses Newcastle vs Tottenham clash

’s clash on Sunday was brought to a pause after a medical emergency happened that involved a fan before half-time.

Paramedics and medical staffs of both sides were present on the scene.

Newcastle scored the opener early doors and took the lead within three minutes courtesy of

put Tottenham back into the game with their goals.

As Tottenham fans were hoping for a third goal, Sergio Reguilon’s attention was directed at the East Stand, where the incident took place.

Referee Andre Marriner then asked players to leave the pitch as a defibrillator was needed, with a stadium announcement disclosing the following message:

"There is a medical emergency in the East Stand".

The affected individual was then driven to the hospital, according to Sky Sport, and the game continued with an additional seven minutes.

went on to score the third goal for Spurs.

Among the Sky Sports punditry team for the match was former Newcastle, Spurs and France player David Ginola, who had a cardiac arrest during a charity game in 2016.

He revealed that it felt “weird” that he was present for the incident but insisted that defibrillators and the knowledge of CPR are crucial in everyday life.

It is vital,"

he stated. 

"It is vital, and I hope that the man or the woman is going to be fine. But it brings back some very weird memories, you know.

"I think the defibrillator helps massively. I think the people in the standsbeing able to perform CPR helps massively. At the end of the day, we should all be able to perform CPR."

Talking about the latter procedure, Ginola added: 

"This is what saved my life, in the words of the surgeons who operated on me and did a full bypass.

"He said that he had done his job but that he hadn't saved my life. The one who saves your life is the one next to you on the football pitch. I was dead for twelve minutes."
