‘Inter wanted Vlahovic and Dzeko together’ – Inter CEO Beppe Marotta
Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has revealed Edin Dzeko was Nerazzurri’s top priority in the market last summer to replace Romelu Lukaku. However, Inter were also eyeing Fiorentina’s ace Dusan Vlahovic.
Romelu Lukaku
left
Interlast summer to return to
Chelsea. Inter released the Belgian striker for a transfer value of 97.5 million pounds.
The sales of
Lukaku
and
Achraf Hakimi
helped Inter’s financial position, and they recruited
Edin Dzeko
from
AS Romaas a replacement for the Belgian striker.
“We always scout and evaluate the opportunities on the market,”
Marotta
said at the
Festival dello Sport
in Trento, according to TMW
.
“Dzeko was certainly our priority target, and we already tried the previous season. Then favorable circumstances and the promise of the President to start from scratch, helped us. In addition to the seriousness of Roma, who kept the commitments made with the player.
“Vlahovic? I consider him a great talent, even if you have to wait before you talk about a champion. There’s a big difference between talent and champion. We were in a very demanding negotiation, even if we could imagine the arrival of two forwards of this caliber.
“The target was Dzeko, the second was Vlahovic. There would also be a complimentary aspect, with the experienced player for the immediate and the player for the future.
“It would have been the best, but we were happy with the Dzeko operation which gave us immediate guarantees.”
