Emerson Palmieri moved to Lyon for a season-long loan
Emerson Palmieri, a Chelsea left-back, has joined Lyon as a loanee for the rest of the season.
Emerson Palmieri moved to Chelsea from Roma in January 2018 for £17.6 million, winning the
Champions League,
Europa League
,
European Super Cup
, and
FA Cup
. But he failed to overtake Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso in the hierarchical order at Stamford Bridge; the 27-year-old was a member of the winning Italy side at Euro 2020 this summer.
The Italy international, who can play both left-back or wing-back, will cost Lyon up to £1 million on loan.
On Saturday, Emerson came off the seats in Chelsea's
Premier Leaguepremiere against Crystal Palace, marking his 71st game for the club.
Emerson was a member of the Italy team that won Euro 2020 this summer, starting in the final against England at Wembley Stadium.
He played four times in the championship, and after Roma's
Leonardo Spinazzola
was sidelined in the quarter-final triumph over Belgium, he became Italy's main left-back.
