Sky Sports confirms Leverkusen’s interest in Liverpool’s Phillips

With the injury of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip, the 24-year-old took the chance to become one of the best performers at Anfield, bagging 17 Premier League appearances for the Reds.

According to 

Sky Sports

, the German giants have targeted 

Nat Phillips

 as the potential replacement if Burkina Faso defender, 

Edmond Tapsoba

, leaves the club.

The 22-year-old centre-back, 

Tapsoba

, has been linked with a move to 

Arsenal

 after displaying impressive performances this season, with Mikel Arteta considering him as a replacement for David Luiz.

Addressing Tapsoba’s future, 

Leverkusen’s

 director, 

Simon Rolfes

, said previously: "Edmond should also play a very important role for us next season.”

Tapsoba joined Bay Arena with an €18 million (£15m/$22m) transfer fee in 2019, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract, and has made 61 appearances for Leverkusen.

 

On the other end, 

Nat Phillips

, who played a key role for the Reds last season, has been uncertain about his future at the club since they have signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

The defender spent 2019/20 at Bundesliga 2 side Stuttgart, Helping them achieve an instant promotion back to the 1st division at the first time of asking.

Sky Sports understands that Leverkusen and a set of Premier League clubs have been in contact with Phillips' agent and have registered their interest.

Speaking to 

the Liverpool Echo, Nat Phillips said on his Liverpool future

: “I think the situation is, initially they didn’t anticipate me having the season and putting in the performances that I did do.

“Maybe where they might have thought I was just going to do a job and then they would be able to sell me and I would move on, now they’re having second thoughts. I’m not sure.
