C.Ronaldo: The first person to reach 300M followers on Instagram

Cristiano Ronaldo is best known for being one of the world's leading goalscorers, but the Portuguese legend has also become the first person to surpass 300 million Instagram followers.

The 36-year-old is well ahead of second-placed

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson

, who has 246m, and third-placed

Ariana Grande

, who has 244m followers.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo's football adversary, Barcelona's Lionel Messi, is eighth in the overall standings with 219 million followers, 81 million less than Ronaldo.

Also, the official Instagram page has 397 million followers, making it the sole account on the social media network with more.

It follows Ronaldo's brace in Portugal's 3-0 triumph against Hungary, which moved him over

Michel Platini

of France as the all-time leading European Championship striker with a total of 11.

In all, Ronaldo has 106 goals in his name for Portugal, second only to Iran's legendary

Ali Daei

with 109 goals in terms of international goals.

Meanwhile, for the tense

Euro 2020

battle with Germany, Portugal head coach

Fernando Santos

believes his team cannot rely on Cristiano Ronaldo to win matches on his own.

While Santos is ecstatic to have the Old Lady striker Cristiano Ronaldo at his disposal, he wants to make sure the whole team is prepared to devote themselves on and off the pitch.

"I

have to motivate every single player, not just Ronaldo for instance. Portugal's value is based on our team," Santos told a press conference.

"It's great to have Ronaldo on our side, we're very proud to have him but Cristiano alone cannot win a match.

"We will want everyone to be motivated: the starting 11 and those who are brought on.

"It's important to be motivated but also focused. The will to win is very important, what comes from inside, from within from your soul, that's what creates this amazing desire to win.

"We have to want to win but we have to know how to win because one without the other is useless."

If Portugal wins in the Allianz Arena, they will advance to the knockout rounds, sending their group opponents on the verge of elimination.
