Alexis Sanchez set to miss Copa America group stage due to injury
Chile striker Alexis Sanchez has been ruled out of the Copa America group stage after suffering a muscular injury during training.

Interforward has suffered an injury to the plantar muscle which means he will miss the group stage of the tournament. That means
Chile
will be facing
Argentina
,
Bolivia
,
Paraguay
, and
Uruguay
without their most influential player.
Chile’s national team announced the bad news in a statement on Saturday.
“The recovery time goes beyond the Copa America group stage, so the athlete will remain in Chile with the medical staff of the national team,”
the statement said
.
But Inter forward will stay with Chile to complete his rehabilitation with the medical staff of the national team, hoping to return in time to contribute.
Chile’s first match in the tournament will be on Monday against Argentina at the Nilton Santos stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil
and
Venezuela
will open Copa America on Sunday at the Mané Garrincha stadium in Brasilia. There will be no fans attending due to the country’s alarming COVID-19 figures.
The 32-year-old, capped 137 times by Chile, played 30 times in Serie A when Inter won their first Scudetto in 11 years in 2020-21.
