Germany U21 coach admits he's thinking about taking on a new challenge

After winning his second European title in his five-year tenure, Stefan Kuntz doubts his future as Germany's under-21 coach.

Kuntz's contract runs until 2023, but he says he will reconsider his future after the Tokyo Summer Games.

"

After Tokyo, I'll put my thoughts in order and let it all sink in,

" Kuntz told Bild and added:

"It's also about what new goals looks like, and what they can look like. Do I need a new challenge, does the new year group represent enough challenge for me? I have to reflect on what I have in the job I'm doing now."

According to Bild, Kuntz was frustrated that he wasn't considered an option to take over Löw's job.

Hansi Flick has been named the new coach of the German national team, although DFB general manager Oliver Bierhoff has promised Kuntz that he will be the first choice to replace Löw.

"We agreed to have a conversation, which did not take place. At a certain point in time, Hansi Flick emerged as the preferred candidate. In this respect, it was understandable."
