Laporte: Nobody can doubt that I'm going to give it all for La Roja

On the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid last night, Spain and Portugal faced one other, which was the debut night for the Man City defender Aymeric Laporte in the La Roja squad.

Both teams are nearing the end of their preparations for

Euro 2020

, which begins on June 11th. The tournament is now held by Portugal, although it was formerly held by La Roja, and the two teams were well matched on the night, with the game ending in a scoreless stalemate.

Prior to kick-off, Luis Enrique chose a 4-3-3 formation as he prepared to take command of his first big competition.

Unai Simon began in goal, with Marcos Llorente, Aymeric Laporte, Pau Torres, and Jose Luis Gaya forming the back four. Sergio Busquets sat in front of them, accompanied on either side by Thiago and Fabian Ruiz. Alvaro Morata was at the front of the line, with Pablo Sarabia and Ferran Torres on the flanks. Much of the post-match discussion focused on Morata, who had a couple of golden opportunities that he could have taken better and that might have made all the difference.

Much of the focus was on Laporte, who made his debut for Spain after defecting from France after failing to gain a spot in

Didier Deschamps

' squad.

Some have criticized the decision, and the Manchester City center-back was questioned about his nationality the day after the game. When asked if he feels Spanish, he responded, "That's a fairly harsh question," according to

Marca

.

The 27-year-old defender said:

"My goal is the same as Spain's. Nobody can doubt that I'm going to give everything for this team

."
