Suarez admits he has ‘suffered’ in Atletico’s title race

The Rojiblancos striker says he has been relieved after scoring a crucial match-winner for Diego Simeone’s side.

Atletico Madrid

are on the verge of securing their first La Liga title since 2014 as they are leading the La Liga table with 83 points from their 37 matches. They are being closely followed by

Real Madrid

, who are only two points behind them on the table. The Rojiblancos fell behind in their match against

Osasuna

on Sunday, but a late match-winner by

Luis Suarez

sealed the victory for

Diego Simeone

’s side. The Uruguayan striker says he has felt the full pressure of La Liga’s title race this season.

He told reporters:

"I don't think we deserved to suffer as much as we ended up doing because we had one of our best halves of the season.

"We missed lots of chances, including me. We have to get used to suffering in order to win La Liga and that's what happened.

"Everyone says that [suffering] is Atletico's thing. I didn't think there was as much [suffering] as this!

"But anyway, the effort, the sacrifice that this team is making... there are lots of people working to achieve our goals. Now it's time to enjoy it, stay calm and prepare in the week ahead."

Having left Barcelona on a free transfer, Suarez joined Atletico Madrid last summer. The experienced striker has scored 20 goals and provided 3 assists in his debut season for Atletico. The Rojiblancos will play their last fixture of the season against

Valladolid

on May 22.
