Brisbane Roar strike blow to Melbourne City’s W-L finals hopes

The reigning champions will struggle to make the league’s finals as they suffered their fourth defeat in six games.

Brisbane

took the lead in the 23rd minute when Clare Polkinghorne scored a header and they managed to double their lead eight minutes later with Emily Gielnik’s penalty kick.

Melbourne City

scored a goal just before half-time and a penalty kick by Samantha Jonhson leveled the game for Rado Vidosic’s team in the 73rd minute. However, Mariel Hecher’s spectacular strike in the 75th minute secured the victory for Brisbane and sent Melbourne to seventh place on the W-League table. In a post-match interview,

Rado Vidosic

has spoken about his team’s chances to reach the league’s finals.

"We're gonna try (to make finals). We're gonna try everything, we're gonna try to win every game like we did so far,

"But it's getting harder and harder with each game."

Melbourne will face Perth Glory in their next W-League match on Thursday.
